Vitamin B2 R-5′-P + Riboflavin is a capsule-form supplement containing Vitamin B2 in two forms: Riboflavin 5′-Phosphate (R-5′-P) and Riboflavin. Riboflavin is a compound with a characteristic yellow and orange colour, discovered during work on the analysis of cow’s milk and known until the 1920s as Lactochrome.
Vitamin B2 Riboflavin:
Riboflavin is the primary form of the vitamin that the human intestine can absorb, and in the body, it is converted to active coenzyme forms. Riboflavin 5′-Phosphate is metabolised to the free form of Riboflavin by alkaline phosphatase in the small intestine.
B2 is the vitamin absorbed both as the free form of Riboflavin and as the Flavin Mononucleotide or R-5′-P. Absorption is better when the vitamin is taken after a meal because the gastric contents slow down peristalsis and prolong the vitamin gastric residence time, which promotes its efficient uptake.

Riboflavin has an intense yellow-orange colour. It not only turns the cellulose transparent capsule but also the urine intensely yellow. When taking vitamin B complexes, it is Riboflavin that changes urine colour, which is totally natural.
The body absorbs about 27-35 mg of Riboflavin at a time, so taking larger single servings is not reasonable. In the case of large deficiencies, it is definitely more beneficial to divide servings into several smaller portions. The body stores only small amounts of Riboflavin; excess amounts are excreted easily in the urine.
It’s very unlikely to overdose on Vitamin B2 as its excess is excreted regularly in the urine. In some individuals, short-term gastrointestinal disorders have been observed at above 150 mg per day.
The richest sources of Riboflavin are meat, mainly pork and poultry, liver, cereals, legumes, eggs, yellow cheeses, milk and milk products.
