As a result of physiological processes, as well as external factors (e.g. stimulants, certain drugs, UV radiation, pollution), oxygen-free radicals are formed in the body.
They have destructive effects leading to damage and malfunction of cellular structures.
To counteract the negative effects of free radicals, the body has developed mechanisms to protect against their excessive formation and to convert already formed ones into inactive derivatives. These mechanisms make use of chemical compounds produced in the body and those supplied, for example with food. These are called antioxidant mechanisms.

against free radicals damage.
